The Carnival: 125 Years of the Penn Relays chronicles the true story of how one event defied the odds for more than a century to become one of the longest running sporting events in history while reshaping the landscape of track and field forever.
Â
"This documentary premiere has been four years in the making and we are thrilled to finally showcase the history and legacy of The Penn Relays to the community," said Kevin Bonner, Senior Associate AD/Governance and Administration and an Executive Producer of the film. "Our friends at JTwo Films did an amazing job telling the story of this event, and we received so much cooperation from some of the biggest names in track and field to make this documentary a must-watch for anyone who has participated or experienced the Penn Relays."
Â
"The Tri-State Toyota Dealers are pleased and honored to be the Presenting Sponsor of the premiere of The Carnival: 125 Years of the Penn Relays," said Paul Muller, President of the Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association. "The Penn Relays are an integral part of Philadelphia's history, and to be included in the retelling of the Penn Relays story is a privilege. We are thrilled to see the Relays return this year. Helping student-athletes and Olympic hopefuls to move beyond their dreams is a core part of Toyota's partnership and support of the Olympic Movement, and we are so proud to be involved."
Â
With interviews from some of track and field's biggest stars including Carl Lewis,
The Carnival is a 75-minute journey through the history of the Relays. Penn worked with the Philadelphia-based film company JTwo to produce the documentary, which included filming during the 125th Running of the Relays in 2019.
Â
The Carnival will also be shown in The Palestra during this year's Penn Relays presented by Toyota on April 28-30 throughout each day.
