PHILADELPHIA – For the second straight year, the Penn Relays presented by Toyota will have one of the world's best hurdlers competing on the final day.
Devon Allen, a two-sport professional and two-time Olympian, is returning to Franklin Field to compete in the 110m hurdles.
Â
Allen, who is currently sixth in the world in the event and held the top spot for 36 weeks, put on a performance at the Penn Relays last year, defeating Jamaican rival Omar McLeod with a time of 13.11. The mark set a Penn Relays record, topping Renaldo Nehemiah's 1979 time of 13.29, while setting the best time in the world at that point in the season.
Â
He has put roots into the City of Brotherly Love, returning to football in 2022 after a six-year hiatus while he focused solely on track & field and preparations for the Olympic Games. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles where he competed in preseason games and the practice squad all season. His first catch for the hometown team was a big one, securing a 55-yard touchdown catch against the Browns in preseason.
Â
Â
His personal best time in the 110m hurdles came after the Penn Relays last year at the New York Grand Pix on June 12, clocking a first-place time of 12.84. Last year, he won the event 10 times in 15 races.
Â
The 127th running of the Penn Relays is set for April 27-29 at Franklin Field. Don't miss out on the largest track and field event in the country, with over 15,000 athletes competing across three days ranging from high school, college, professional, and masters.
