Montgomery Leads Strong Field For Toyota OD Men's 400m

PHILADELPHIA – Tomorrow is the day! The 127th running of the Penn Relays presented by Toyota kicks off for three days at historic Franklin Field. To build up the hype, we are excited to announce the Toyota Olympic Development Men's 400m field.

Montgomery, Hall, and Russell are all sub
-45 seconds coming into Penn Relays, only 0.50 seconds separating them. 
 
Montgomery, the 2019 Division I NCAA 400m champion, enters Penn Relays with the best time of the group. Montgomery started his collegiate career at Missouri and finished with the University of Houston during his junior and senior years. At Missouri, he won the 2016 World U20 Championships 4x400m. While running at Houston, he was a two-time NCAA champion in the 400m, and was the 2018 NACAC 400m champion. After graduating, Montgomery won the Diamond League 400m in September 2020. 
 
Hall returns to Penn Relays after winning the 400m hurdles in 2019. He is a five-time All-American who ran for the University of South Carolina. In 2019, Hall was the SEC 400m champion for both indoor and outdoor, as well as the NCAA outdoor 400m hurdles champion. In his professional career, he has won the 2022 NACAC Championships in two events, 4x400m relay and the 4x400m mixed relay. Hall has ranked 16th in the world for the 400m and 11th for the 400m hurdles. 
 
Russell enters in a close third place with a 44.73. Russell ran for Florida State University, where he was a four-time All-American. While at FSU, he competed in both the indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships. In his professional career, Russell is highly decorated, most notably earning bronze in the 2016 Olympic Games in the 4x400m relay. 
 
Spratling returns to the Penn Relays after winning the 4x400m relay in 2014 for the University of Pittsburg. In 2015 Spratling won the 4x400m relay again, this time with the USA Olympic Development team. While attending Pitt, Spratling competed in the NCAA Indoor Championships three times and the NCAA Outdoor Championships twice. In 2015 at the IAAF World Relays, he won the 4x400m relay and set the current world record time for the Distance Medley relay (9:15.50). 
 
Bartley enters with a personal best of 45.17 seconds which he earned placing third in the 2021 Jamaican Championships. Bartley competed for Team Jamaica at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in the 4x400m mixed relays and the 4x400m relays. In his NCAA career, Bartley was a six-time All-American while running at the University of Iowa and Texas Tech. 
 
Poole enters with a time of 45.26. Competing in the NAIA with Wayland Baptist University, he placed in the top three of several events in the NAIA indoor and outdoor championships. 
 
Hanson competed at the collegiate level for the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and Texas A&M. He is a three-time All-American and a TAMU All-Time Top-12 Performer in the indoor 400m and indoor 4x400m. In 2022, Hanson won the NCAA Indoor Championship 4x400m relay with Texas A&M. 
 
Owusu enters the Penn Relays with a 46.48. Owusu specializes in 100m and 200m events. In 2019, he won the 4x100m for Ghana at the All-African Games. Prior to that, he ran at Coppin State University and competed in the 2018 NCAA Division I Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
