In recent years, Whilden has become a four-time winner of Masters 100-meter dashes. He returned in 2011 to win the 75-and over, then followed it with victories in 2012, 2016, and 2017. But 40 years earlier, he first made his mark at the Relays by anchoring a pair of Texas relay wins, each of which tied existing meet records. His anchor of the 440-yard relay team in 41.1 tied a UT record set in 1936. Later that day, he anchored the winning 880-yard team to a record-equaling 1:25.4, a mark first set in 1940.
