Earning six Penn Relays titles from 1974 through 1976, Jones ran on winning sprint relay teams and won the 100-yard dash in 1974 and the 100-meter dash in 1976. His 1976 100m title was one of three Carnival records that he was a part of that year, along with records in the 4x100m and 4x200m. The latter win also tied the world record.
