In just two years of competition at the Relays, McKenley earned six watches. He anchored winners in the 440y, 880y, and Mile relays in 1946, and the next year he tried for five wins and successfully anchored the winning 440y and 880y relays while also running on the championship Distance Medley team. In his two losses he finished second in the Sprint Medley and Mile Relays by a total of 0.2 seconds in a pair of anchor leg duels with Wall of Famer Reggie Pearman.
