Villanova 1991
A winner of six Penn Relays watches, Sonia O’Sullivan was a bright star at Villanova. Her victories included two each in the 4x800, the 4x1500 and the distance medley. In both the 1989 and ‘90 4x1500 wins, O’Sullivan (second from right), clocked the fastest split among her teammates, with the winning times setting world bests on both occasions, the latter lasting for 17 years. Her lead-off on the DMR in 1990 sparked the victory as Villanova missed their own record by less than one second. The 1988 time (10:48.38) remained the fastest in the world for 18 years.
