Twice a recipient of the College Female High School Relay Performer award, Patterson anchored a thrilling win for William Penn High School in the 1996 4x400-meter championship. That win remains the most recent 4x400 title by a Pennsylvania school. She also anchored her teams as a senior in 1997, and later, while at Texas she ran the lead-off leg for their winning 4x400-meter relay in 1999, while also finishing 2nd in the 400-meter hurdles that year.
