The anchor on four championship relays, MacMitchell ran the fastest mile splits ever at the Carnival, twice. In high school, he ran a 4:19.5, which was faster than the national record, and at N.Y.U. in ‘41 he anchored three wins, with his 4:09.4 split record finishing the 4-mile relay.
