Penn Relays

In 1950, Morgan State men’s 4x440-yard relay team ran a remarkable time of 3:13.6, breaking the previous Penn Relays record of 3:14.8 set in 1939. The team featured Sam LaBeach (49.9), Bob Tyler (48.7), Bill Brown (47.5), and George Rhoden (47.5), giving Morgan State their first victory at the Penn Relays. Morgan State would go on to win the 4x440 four more times over the next 32 years while also creating a sprinting relay powerhouse in the 1950s.
